Justice Minister David Ford has published proposals to amend aspects of the the Legal Aid assessment process.
~ Wednesday, 17 April 2013
The proposals are outlined in the consultation document ‘Proposed Amendments to the Legal Aid (Assessment of Resources) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1981’ and follow a High Court Judgment whereby the judge ruled that assessment practices used to assess legal aid applications, where the applicant was paying for board and lodgings, to be without the requisite statutory authority.
The proposed changes, both legislative and administrative, have been agreed with key stakeholders and are aimed at achieving full compliance with the High Court Judgment.
The consultation period closes on 10 July 2013.
