Prison life

The Northern Ireland Prison and Young Offenders Rules 1995 set out the minimum entitlements that any inmate who serves a period of custody must receive. Over and above these statutory obligations the Prison Service has developed a range of policies to best meet the needs of all prisoners.

This section provides an overview of a range services provided for prisoners including: catering, chaplaincy, drugs, education, family contact, healthcare, sport & recreation and training & employment. Examples of good practice in these areas and some detail on future developments are also included.
