Consultation on upper age limit for jury service

The Department of Justice is carrying out a consultation about the upper age limit for jury service in Northern Ireland.

Currently, a person who has reached the age of 70 may no longer serve as a juror, while persons aged between 65 and 69 may choose not to serve.

Your views are invited on three main questions:

  • Should there be an upper age limit for jury service?
  • If so, at what age should an upper age limit be set?
  • Should there be an age-related right to excusal?
